I love fancy mustard, jams, sauces, relishes etc...the really high end ones you buy at fancy stores. I rarely indulge, but on occasion, friends will give these to me as gifts. Then I find myself waiting for some special occasion to use the gift. Only..I wait too long--no occasion seems special enough, or the jar gets shifted to the back of the shelf and forgotten.
Now when I am given such a gift, or buy some indulgent item, i place it on my menu plan for sometime within the next three months, depending on shelf life. I actively seek to create a special meal or occasion to use up the gifted bounty. That way, noting gets forgotten and I make the ordinary days special at home.

Good idea. So what advice do you have for someone who is married to the Condiment King and has bottles of seafood sauce, 4 kinds of mustard, several partial bottles of Hershey's syrup (from youth group activities), random marinades, bbq sauces, etc., etc., etc.? I wonder if we'll ever use it all up!
Thanks for sharing!! Gourmet gift baskets are not only easy on your wallet, they give a lot of little gifts to the recipient.
