I love the citrusy scented kitchen and bathroom cleaners, but I do not like the price. I have been using regular white vinegar, but I missed the orange or grapefruit scents that I like.
Here is a recipe I tried and like...it works well and is very inexpensive, I had all the ingredients on hand already.
1. Peel an orange or grapefruit and put the peels in a clean quart jar, fill with white vinegar and set aside for about two weeks in a dark cabinet, shake it every once in a while. After two weeks, strain the vinegar and return it to the jar.
2. Put 1 cup of the vinegar, 1 tsp of borax, 1 tsp of washing soda, 1 tsp of dish soap and enough warm water to fill in a clean spray bottle.
This is now the new cleaner, shake it well to dissolve the powders and you're good to go.

Thanks for posting this. I also like homemade products but hate the smell. I will have to try it.
interesting. I always see ones with essential oils. Do you use this on floors? I have hardwood and many of the homemade products leave them sticky. Do you find that? I may try this.
Thanks
I've tried using straight and diluted vinegar for cleaning (kitchen floor, bathroom sink and counter) and went back to the commercial cleaners because I was not seeing as good results. How do you think this compares to the commercial cleaners?
This sounds like a good formula.
I have been using vinegar with about a tablespoon of something like Lysol or Mr. Clean (etc) in it to give it the fesh smell.
I use it all over the kitchen and to spot clean in the house and even around the sink in the bathroom. Sometimes I will have to bleach the counter tops because of stains (usually from KoolAid). But other than that, its my everyday cleaner!
I might try this sometime, it would be even more furgal I think!:-)
Donna, for me it was extremely frugal, since I already had all the stuff on hand. I use the borax and the washing soda in my home-made laundry deterfent, so the stuff was right there, already paid for. I always have vinegar and so on...it worked for me.
